Definition of a Prophet

DEFINITION OF THE PROPHET

This office gift is also under the foundational ministries for building, directing, and developing churches and leaders.  This individual, many times would have an extraordinarily powerful gift of Prophecy and people would sense a divinely anointed utterance and confirmation to the prophetic words that are spoken.  They are gifted to receive and communicate the word, message and direction of the Lord to the body.  Many times will be called upon to raise up other prophetic voices and will teach and preach with great revelation knowledge and insight from the Word of God.

 

PROPHET:

Gives direction – visionary – evangelistic – encourager – company of prophetic  voices
Apostle / Prophet: An apostle and prophet don’t usually start out as Apostles or Prophets

 

HAND:

The Five-fold office gifts can be represented by the fingers on a hand

 

  • Apostle: Thumb
  • Prophet: Index finger
  • Evangelist: Middle finger
  • Pastor: Ring finger
  • Teacher: Little finger

 

PROPHET (Index Finger) – Points the way;  Minister of Revelation, most closely related to and works closely with the thumb (Apostle).  These are foundational ministries.

 

Part of the Apostolic Team, to birth and build.
Prophetic and Evangelistic team to draw a crowd – servants with outreach on their hearts

  • Not everyone who prophecies is a prophet, but every prophet prophecies
  • One is an office gift of leadership in the Body to equip the Saints  Eph. 4:11-12

ACTS 26:19

When Paul was called before King Agrippa, he said he was not disobedient to the Vision, the call on his life. Paul testified of Christ.  He confronted sin. He did the work of an evangelist. He announced the Kingdom

 

  • The prophet will be accountable to God not just for his ministry but his life & his ways, he who much is given much is required
  • What is he saying now – prosperity, war – raise up an army, equip, empower
  • Calls SIN- SIN!
